2017-02-15: So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish

With apologies to Douglas Adams fans. I won't be leaving this world immediately, but my glide to the exit has begun.

My oncologist called me today, in advance of my scheduled appointment with him next week, to let me know that he has reviewed the CAT scan results and believes that there is no point in continuing the current treatment, since it is not effective.  In addition, he indicated that my treatment options have been exhausted and there is really nothing more to be done other than stop the chemotherapy treatments altogether and let nature take its course.  Palliative care to manage pain will become the primary goal now, as the cancer progresses.

I am not sure when I will move from Maryland to Virginia, but I expect it will be in the next few weeks.  Once I get weaker, or so drugged up with pain killers, and can no longer manage on my own, it will be much better to be close to family in Arlington.  At this point, there is no way to know how quick my decline will be without treatment, but I expect it will pretty much match the initial life expectancy estimate of about 3 months at the initial diagnosis.

I'll continue to post to the blog with my status and any pertinent information as long as I am able.  After that, I am counting on my brother to continue with a few final posts.

There may be more to add after I see my oncologist on the 21st, but this is the significant item for the moment.
